FIFTH WARD ELEMENTARY
Welcome to the 2022 – 2023 school year! Join us this year for “Our Journey to Excellence.” Our ultimate goal is to strengthen four key areas; culture, curriculum and instruction, communication, and community. We will work as partners with our community to ensure our students are successful. We know that strong partnerships will have a great impact on your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our students’ success and recognize that we can’t reach excellence alone. We look forward to our parents and community members partnering with us to improve student outcomes.
This year, “We are Learning Together.” We have an extraordinary group of administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, lunch technicians, and office personnel who are prepared to bring maximum effort and commitment to teaching and learning. Maximum efforts will bring maximum results.
As we all know, COVID has changed the way we educate our students. We will continue to follow state and district guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment. The use of technology has become the new way of learning. Your child’s safety and learning will remain a priority, and will make adjustments as needed based on COVID activity. Our teachers are equipped to teach virtually if need be. Technology will be incorporated on a daily basis to ensure all students know how to operate the technology devices in case they have to revert to virtual learning. Teachers will use the best instructional strategies to allow students opportunities to take ownership of their individual learning.
Our LEAP 2025 results have proven that there is much work to be done, and I remain hopeful that we can build on our pre-pandemic past successes to continue to improve student achievement. In doing so, we must stay true to our new vision statement.
Our vision is to maintain a culture of teaching and learning where all students receive high-quality,
standards-based instruction and have the opportunity to thrive in a just, fair and caring learning environment. As a result, students will take ownership of their learning to transition to the next level.
